I was here when this track was recorded with friends Susan and Linda - Happy memories of a wonderful show and happy to be one of the voices singing along.
A few weeks ago we tried covering Vampire Weekend's song "I Think Ur A Contra," using only the sound of Alex's waterphone and Vienna's playing of the rim of a wineglass. It went over decently that night at Rockwood, but we thought the idea was worth exploring further, so we set a goal to write a whole new song around that sound—in time to perform at The Bell House two days later. On the car ride over to the venue, we had an arrangement but no words; we were still frantically writing lyrics as the opening band started their set. Sometimes songs are most fun written that way—quickly, one idea building off another, with no time for second-guessing or over-analyzing.
Recorded live at Yoshi's Oakland on March 13, 2011. Extra special thanks to the audiences that night for their gorgeous choir singing!

lyrics
watch the shadow lines fade away
brother you will return
let your lion heart cleave the waves
brother you will return
in the breaking light
leave the battlefield, leave her hand
brother you will return
we are a woven thread—find the strand
brother you will return
in the breaking light
so listen to the darkness, listen to the patterns
listen to the breathing sea
listen to the colors, carry them inside you
they will bring you back to me
in the breaking light
feel the ground beneath sweep and sway
brother we will return
feel the hollow dream slip away
brother we will return
in the breaking light
listen to the darkness, listen to the patterns
listen to the breathing sea
listen to the colors, carry them inside you
they will bring you back to me
listen to the sirens, listen to the heartbeat
listen to the turning tide
listen to the murmurs, carry them inside you
'til we're on the other side
in the breaking light

Vienna and Tanya- So fluid, lots of subtle voices in the sound. I enjoyed the male angst among the power of the female hope for a great future. Well done. Very much worth the wait after being teased from the first set of songs from the concept album tadjacks
